What can you do about scams and phishing?

While they may seem threatening, there are a variety of ways you can protect yourself against phishing and scammers. Avoid opening usual or unexpected attachments, especially those with unusual file extensions (.zip, .jar, .js). Enable, use, and regularly update security tools, including anti-virus software, firewalls, and security patches. Never send personal or sensitive information such as bank account or credit card data over email or instant messenger.

Don’t transfer “extra” or accidental pay back to an employer, and never pay an employer upfront for a position or any kind of “starter kit”: a quality employer is more than happy to train their chosen candidates at their own expense. Be wary of employers who offer you a job without an interview or formal application process; if their offer seems “too good to be true,” it probably is.
